- Hundred thousand years ago the participation in the desert increased because of the low pressure on ice sheets to its north. Yet when the ie sheets melted the low pressure shifted and it dried out the whole northern side of the Sahara desert! Luckily, a monsoon occured on the southern side of the desert, so that side continued to recieve moisture. The monsoon continued moving south and dried ou like it is today.
- The annual rainfall of the desert today is about 2.5cm per year!
